Our Story Begins in Africa…

The vision for Give 35mm came into focus for photographer Christine “Buzz” Busby in 2015 while fulfilling her adventure wanderlust in Tanzania.

After climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, Buzz, who manifested her compassion for lesser fortunate communities as a volunteer in South East Asia during the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, felt once again called to positively contribute to the local community and signed on to help humanitarian efforts at an orphanage in a small Tanzanian village.

However, rather than help with building houses, Buzz was asked to put her photography skills to work. This fortunate twist of fate planted the inspirational seed that would eventually blossom into Give 35mm.

The idea was simple – rather than have an outsider like Buzz take photos, give cameras to the children and teach them to become photographers themselves so they can capture their experience from their own perspective.

After teaching 38 kids how to take pictures and experiencing the joy this new creative outlet brought them, Buzz realized this concept had real potential to bring about a long-term positive impact to improve the lives of underprivileged young children everywhere.

Since then, the mission of Give 35mm is to improve the lives of underprivileged communities by providing them with camera equipment and photography education to foster creative expression. We achieve this with the help of our expanding network of generous donors and volunteers, and through gallery expositions where we showcase the amazing photographs taken by our benefactors.
